Connecting Essentials Smart Home with Amazon Alexa

Preparation

Before setting up voice control with Alexa, please ensure the following:

1. Set up Essentials device

   Completely set up the product in the

   Tuya Smart App.

   (Connect Wi-Fi, test device, assign room).

2. Install Tuya Skill

   Open the Amazon Alexa App and install the skill

   "Tuya".

3. Login to the Skill

   Log in with the same credentials you use for the Tuya App.

   → This is the only way Alexa can access the same database.

Create scenes in the Tuya App

Alexa cannot control Essentials/Tuya devices directly, only through scenes.

Only switching commands are reliably supported:

• Turn device on

• Turn device off

Therefore, you need two separate scenes.

Scene "Turn device on"

1. Open Tuya App

2. Tap "Scene" at the bottom

3. Tap "+" at the top right

4. "Tap here to start operating"

5. Under "Then" → "+" → "Control single device"

6. Select desired device

7. Select State: "on"

8. Next → Save

Scene "Turn device off"

Same steps as above, but in step 7:

State: "off"

Note

The Essentials/Tuya-Alexa integration does not support advanced commands such as:

• Set temperature

• Change color

• Adjust brightness

• Percentages

• Open/Close with positions

Alexa can only reliably execute On/Off scenes.

Create Alexa Routines

Alexa only executes scenes via Routines.

No voice command works without a routine.

Routine "Device on"

1. Open Alexa App

2. More → Routines → "+"

3. Under "When this happens" → "Voice command"

4. Enter any command, e.g.:

   • "Turn on lamp"

   • "Turn on smart plug"

   • "Turn on device"

   
   

5. "Add action" → "Smart Home" → "Control scene"

6. Select scene "Turn device on"

7. Save

Routine "Device off"

Same procedure, command e.g.:

• "Turn off lamp"

• "Turn off smart plug"

• "Turn off device"

→ Select scene "Turn device off" → Save.

Alexa Voice Control

After setup, simple commands like these will work:

• "Alexa, turn on lamp"

• "Alexa, turn off lamp"

• "Alexa, turn on smart plug"

• "Alexa, turn off smart plug"

Other commands are not supported.

Troubleshooting

1. Skill not correctly linked

• Check if you are logged in to the SmartLife skill

• Login must be identical to the Tuya App

2. Scene not working

• Tap the scene in the Tuya App → Function test

• If it doesn't respond there, Alexa cannot execute it either

3. Routine missing

• Alexa needs one routine each for On and Off

4. Network issues

• Reload device

• Briefly restart router

• Reopen Tuya App
