LOT 20 is a directive that applies to all local space heaters. It is part of the European Ecodesign Directive (2009/125/EC), which aims to make energy-using products more environmentally friendly.
According to the directive, electric heaters must, for example, have an electronic thermostat and programmable weekly programs. Otherwise, they may no longer be sold in the EU. Furthermore, they must be equipped with either an open-window detector or a presence detector, or alternatively, an adaptive heating start function. The heater automatically calculates how long it will take to heat up from the economy temperature to the desired temperature. Furthermore, thermostats must have low standby energy consumption.
