A light bulb is an artificial light source. The correct term is actually incandescent lamp—however, the colloquial term "bulb" has become more common, as many light bulbs are shaped like a pear.

The light bulb works by means of an electrical conductor integrated inside it. This conductor heats up when the current passes through it, causing the light bulb to glow.

In 2009, the EU adopted a gradual ban on the production and sale of incandescent bulbs with poor energy efficiency. As a result, LED bulbs are now primarily used, as their environmental footprint is significantly better than that of the conventional incandescent bulbs previously used.

For the smart home, there are special Wi-Fi-based LED light bulbs that can be switched on, off, and dimmed via an app or voice command.
