Cloud

A cloud is defined as the provision of storage space, computing power, and software applications over the Internet. Access to the cloud is gained via specially developed programs or a web browser.

In the private sector, the cloud is often used as a data storage device, for example, for vacation photos. A major advantage: If you send your data to the cloud, you no longer have to worry about data backup.

Smart home devices are also cloud-based: The online connection enables remote control of the home technology via a smartphone app. Smart home devices also require storage space for their data – and they find this in the cloud. Otherwise, the smart home technology user would have to install their own server in the home, which would be very complex and technically demanding.

Important to know: Many smart home devices in our online shop also work with a Internet outage (i.e., if the cloud is temporarily unavailable). They have an offline mode, so the basic operation of the smart home installation remains intact even without internet. During an internet outage, you can no longer control the devices via your phone; instead, you have to operate them manually.
