When we talk about "surface-mounted," we mean a visible installation, such as cables, sockets, bathroom fixtures, or even doorbells. The counterpart to surface-mounted installation is flush-mounted installation.
Smart home components such as sockets and switches are available in both surface-mounted and flush-mounted versions. Flush-mounted installation is technically demanding, as it requires working directly on the electrical grid. Non-professionals are better advised to seek professional assistance. Surface-mounted installation, on the other hand, is much simpler and can be completed quickly by anyone – even without technical knowledge.
